Rethinking Nature, Slide Show

IPCI (Instituto de Produção e Comunicação de Imagem): 7/10 – 09:30pm

Av. Conde Valbom 102B, 1050-070 Lisboa

IMAGO Garage: 22/10 – 09:30pm

Rua do Vale de Santo António 50C, 1170-381 Lisboa

Earlier this year, the photography festivals in Vienna (FOTO WIEN), Luxembourg (Mois Européen de la Photographie Luxembourg) and Lisbon (IMAGO LISBOA) launched an international open call on the theme "Rethinking Nature". Of the 168 entries from 74 countries, 110 artists were selected and a slideshow was produced containing images that convincingly demonstrate the importance of photography in relation to the theme of Man and Nature. The Rethinking Nature slideshow brings together a wide variety of views on nature that illustrate, filter and analyze the present ambiguity of our vision – part sentimental dwelling in nostalgic contemplation, part illustration of destruction and exploitation of the environment. The distance that artistic translation cannot avoid putting between us and the subject demands that we reconsider the multiple meanings of nature. Placing things at a distance has the potential to bring out a wide range of different views on landscape photography. The selected images cover a broad spectrum of artistic thought ranging from philosophical meditation to concept, from document to new romanticism. The compilation of different positions, combined with the music composed for this particular slideshow, provides a multi-faceted audiovisual experience that explores the very personal relationships we have with nature.

Rethinking Nature / Rethinking Landscape

A fotografia perante o desafio ambiental: Estratégias e Horizontes

IPCI – Instituto de Produção Cultural e Imagem: 7/10 – 09:30pm

Av. Conde Valbom 102B, 1050-070 Lisboa

The motto of this conversation will start from the viewing of a selection of images, resulting from the open call "Rethinking Nature", carried out by a group of international photography festivals, of which IMAGO is a part. The relationship between Man and Nature involves environmental, economic, socio-political issues, where visual representation takes on a variety of artistic strategies and practices, used by the authors to reflect about the different forms and challenges of the contemporary relationship with Nature and the planet.

The Family in Transition

Family and representation: concept and preconceptions

IPCI – Instituto de Produção Cultural e Imagem: 23/10 – 05:00pm

Av. Conde Valbom 102B, 1050-070 Lisboa

One of the thematic axes of this year's edition of IMAGO is the Family in Transition, visible in a series of exhibitions in the Carpentries of São Lázaro. Constituting the central nucleus of human presence in the world, whether from a structural, functional, and even economic point of view, the origin, definition, and contemporary experience of the family has been, however, a territory of contestation, but also of affirmation of new practices and identities. On issues related to the visual and linguistic representation of the family, a group of guests will also talk about single parenting, marriage, homoparenting, functionality and happiness.

The Consented Landscapes Creation Laboratory seeks to explore ways of doing things that are more paced and aligned with the dynamics of nature, promoting the development of projects that reflect on the relationship between natural and chronological time. During four sessions, participants will have contact with different processes of creation, as well as supports, and will be able to compose their representations from an inaugural walk around vacant lots where spontaneous vegetation confronts the most varied urban interventions. Based on the creation techniques presented, participants will be free to explore whichever ones they wish, being able to develop small, medium or large-scale compositions, in conventional supports. During all stages, participants will be accompanied by Paula Lourenco and Sofia Silva, authors, experimentalists and founding associates of Tira-Olhos. The workshop will have 28h, 7h daily spread over 4 days. Registration is required and limited to 5 participants.

Lançamento do Livro de Fotografia de João Mariano, "ENTRE AS ÁGUAS", 2021

Galeria Imago Lisboa: 16/10 at 05:30pm

Rua do Vale de Santo António 50C - Lisboa

Quote from the original post in portuguese: «(…) a ribeira que nasce na vertente noroeste do alto da serra de Monchique, junto à Fóia, e desce sinuosa e ondulante até à Ponta Viva, na praia da Amoreira, em Aljezur, sempre foi uma referência afectiva. Acompanhou toda a minha infância, adolescência e continua a acompanhar a minha existência. (…)»
